Harrell Hill Farms Harrell Hill Farms has been a local farm for over 200 years and over the years its predominant crops have changed many times. Currently, it specializes in grass-fed beef and sorghum syrup molasses. The farm started out to just put food on the table for the family and then was a thriving dairy and burley tobacco farm to today's beef and molasses production. Y ou can even purchase their molasses in some of the Ingles in western North Carolina. The owners of the farm are Doug and Barbara Harrell which are my great aunt and uncle. And they manage this large acre farm with my grandfather. The farm is located along Big Rock Creek in Bakersville, NC, and the area is very hilly and mostly consists of pastures for the cattle to graze. The agricultural phenomenon that I want to observe at Harrell Hill Farms is pests. I want to see how they manage the pest problem in the sugar cane fields and if it is efficient, sustainable, and if it works. I will mainly be observing and ...
